Microsoft Copilot
GPT-4 search baked into Windows and Edge
Expert's Tip
"Free GPT-4 access is genuinely useful if you're already in the Microsoft ecosystem. Copilot Pro inside Excel and Word is where the real value is."
What is Microsoft Copilot?
Microsoft Copilot is the AI layer across Microsoft's entire product suite — Bing search, Windows 11, Edge browser, and Microsoft 365. The free version gives GPT-4o access with web search, image generation via DALL-E 3, and basic document summarization. Copilot Pro ($20/month per user) plugs into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook with contextual AI assistance across your documents.
For enterprises already on Microsoft 365, the value proposition is hard to argue with. Copilot in Excel can write formulas, create pivot tables, and explain data trends in plain English. In Teams, it summarizes meetings and extracts action items.
Where it struggles: the search quality in Bing AI doesn't match Perplexity's research depth, and the web interface feels less polished than standalone AI apps. If you're not embedded in the Microsoft ecosystem, there's little reason to choose this over Perplexity or Claude.
